In the era of globalization, international collaboration and worldwide perspective are universal values that cannot be underestimated. The International Academic Competence (IAC) workshop was first held at National Taiwan University (NTU) in summer 2011. The workshop consisted of 30 students from several Taiwanese universities. With the spirit of being open to new knowledge, the board recruited participants from various academic fields. To offer opportunities for more highly-motivated students, in 2013, both NTU and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) are holding the IAC workshop again with 60 participants in total.
The workshop aims at providing an all-in-English environment, which boosts academic English proficiency and stimulates critical thinking abilities in a foreign language. Interdisciplinary integration and exchanges are encouraged, while the ultimate goal of the workshop is to train participants to hold international conferences. To achieve this, participants have to learn how to work with limited resources, arrange procedures and cooperate with each other. After the workshop, students are expected to have improved their English skills and be able to comfortabley perform in an international academic environment.
With faculty and instructors’ efforts, IAC students are dedicated to learning. They will both experience a substantial enhancement in their English proficiency, and have a basic understanding of research community. The workshop motivates students to enter academic fields allowing them to process new knowledge more efficiently once they have access to advanced training. We sincerely welcome all the students who are enthusiastic about learning!
